I happen to live in Charlottesville, Virginia, which is, generally speaking, competitive for one of the most liberal college campus towns in America (competing quite earnestly against the likes of Madison, WI and Berkeley, CA). When a local radio station, WINA, brought in the only former Republican city councilor in recent history to be the morning host, I nearly ran off the road. I was scanning through stations and suddenly heard a voice which I was certain was misplaced, or, more likely, miscast. Being an XM Radio subscriber, I rarely listen to local radio. However, I checked back with WINA to make sure it wasn't a one-time goof. Lo and behold, Rob returned, and kept hosting the morning show. I listened.
However, recently, Rob stopped appearing on the air. WINA is too savvy to say what truly happened, and Rob is too classy to tell people he was wronged. But, apparently, the program directors at WINA let political leanings (MSM leanings) get in the way of good, common, business sense. Rob is the best host they've had. I'd rather listen to Rob than Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. So would a lot of other people in this town. But, as it is, my ears are going to be attuned to whatever advertising XM Radio decides to throw my way rather than listen to WINA. So are a lot of other former WINA listeners.
Note to WINA: Check your Arbitron ratings for the mornings. Explain to your advertisers who are paying you good money to tell their message to as many listeners as possible why your morning ratings are dropping.
And, most importantly, bring back Rob Schilling!
